Top 10 Strongest Naruto Characters

Over the duration of the Naruto television series, the wildly popular anime that launched in 2002, we’re introduced to plenty of extremely powerful characters. Traditionally, the strongest ninja of each village is said to be the Kage, and while these village heads are strong, towards the conclusion of the show we get a much clearer idea of how their strength compares to many of the other characters in the show.

In this list, we’ll be breaking down our picks for the strongest characters in Naruto. Each choice will be decided from their most powerful form that is either shown or referred to in the series. There were plenty of other ninjas that just missed out on making it into the top ten. And that’s because these are most definitely the top tier of Ninja in the show.

10. Might Guy

Might Guy

Kakashi's self-proclaimed rival and the instructor for Team Guy bears an incredible amount of power underneath his silly poses and odd appearance. Guy has mastered taijutsu, assaulting foes with a variety of physical attacks, and unlike his apprentice Rock Lee, he's not completely devoid of skill in ninjutsu and genjutsu.

The official Naruto databooks give Guy perfect scores in Taijutsu, Strength, Speed, and Stamina, and his most powerful techniques involve opening the Eight Gates, letting him such attacks as the "Night Guy", a kick so powerful it distorts space and nearly kills Madara Uchicha (in his greatest form). As strong as Guy is at his prime, he's limited by the permanent damage the Eight Gates can cause his body and his occasional inattentiveness, like when he misses a fail-safe Gaara constructs during his fight with Rock Lee.

9. Obito Uchiha

Obito Uchiha

Famously remaining a mystery for the majority of the series, Obito Uchiha is in fact the person behind the mask of Tobi, a member of Akatsuki. When his identity is revealed, Obito boasts not only the Sharingan as part of his Uchiha heritage, but also the Rinnegan, which he had taken from the corpse of Nagato. Having this power allowed Obito to use all of the Six Paths techniques. On top of this, Obito’s Sharingan has the unique ability of Kamui which allows him to teleport between dimensions and become invulnerable to attack.

At the peak of the series, Obito seals the Ten-Tailed Beast within himself becoming its Jinchuriki and gaining access to its power. Giving him extremely powerful attacking and healing abilities as well as the ability to fly.

8. Kakashi Hatake

Kakashi Hatake

Before he ever received his Sharingan eye from former teammate Obito, Kakashi was a standout shinobi trained by the Fourth Hokage himself. After receiving the eye, however, he became regarded far and wide as “The Copy Ninja,” a warrior known for his ability to learn Jutsu from other ninjas and repeat them virtually immediately. In fact, Kakashi is referred to as “the ninja who copied over 1000 Jutsu” in the anime.

As the leader of Team 7, Kakashi trained Sasuke, Sakura, and Naruto. Not to mention, this shinobi is a longtime member of the Anbu Black Ops, an elite tactical unit of ninjas. If this were a list of most popular characters from the anime, then Kakashi would likely land a lot higher, but he remains one of the strongest Naruto characters.

7. Hamura Otsutsuki

Hamura Otsutsuki

Hamura Otsutsuki is the minor character of the Naruto series. He is the younger son of Kaguya Otsutsuki and the twin brother of Hagormo Otsutsuki both of them being the first people to be born with the ability to wield chakra, he is the ancestor of the Hyūga clan and the founder of the shinobi of the Moon.

6. Sasuke Uchiha

Sasuke Uchiha

Although Sasuke begins the series as Naruto's fledgling rival, by the end of the Fourth War, he becomes one of the strongest beings in existence. As Itachi's little brother, Sasuke was likewise an Uchiha prodigy, and has always been skilled in taijutsu (particularly speed) as well as his clan's trademark Fire Release. Sasuke also masters the Lightning Release and wields a Sharingan that Orochimaru notes exceeds even Itachi's.

Over the course of the series, Sasuke learns several incredible abilities, including the eternally-burning black fire of Amaterasu, summoning Susanoo with Mangekyo Sharingan, and the placement-swapping powers of Amenotejikara. As the reincarnation of the legendary Indra, Sasuke wields vast chakra reservoirs, and he never really loses a battle to his rival Naruto, with their final fight ending in what many consider a draw.

5. Naruto Uzumaki

Naruto Uzumaki

Naruto's skills were initially shaky, but (like most anime protagonists) he gains incredible power over time. This is largely due to harboring Kurama, the Nine-Tails beast, inside himself, and his vast chakra reserves are further complemented being the reincarnation of the legendary Asura.

Naruto not only learns but improves upon the Rasengan attack his father crafted, masters the Six Paths Sage Mode form, and eventually learns to use the Asura Kurama state, a giant energy avatar that rivals Sasuke's Susanoo in power. Naruto is eventually regarded as the strongest ninja in history, accomplishes his childhood dream by becoming the village's seventh Hokage, and marries Hinata, fathering his son Boruto and daughter Himawari.

4. Hashirama Senju

Hashirama Senju

The original Hokage and founder of the Hidden Leaf village, Hashirama was considered a God of Shinbo and unmatched in his time. He repeatedly defeated Madara Uchiha during their long rivalry, his chakra reserves were incredible (letting him fight four 24 hours without tiring), and his body was so full of vitality that he would heal any injury almost immediately, a recovery only rivaled by Tsunade's later healing method.

Additionally, Hashirama was skilled with a variety of nature transformations, particularly his signature Wood Release, a custom application of water and earth chakra that no one since has mastered (any imitations have been noticeably weaker). Beyond his fantastic brawling, Hashirama bore an honorable heart, seeking to unite warring clans into one peaceful faction, and Kabuto stated during the Fourth Shinobi World War that none had yet exceeded Hashirama in power.

3. Madara Uchiha

Madara Uchiha

Madara Uchiha was arguably the second-strongest champion of his time and united his Uchiha clan with Hashirama's Senju. However, jealous and wary, Madara eventually rebelled against the coalition, but was ultimately killed by his rival. Resurrected years later by Kabuto, Madara was made even stronger than before through additions Kabuto prepared in the revival, and Madara later absorbed the Ten-Tailed Beast, strengthening yet again. From summoning meteors to learning Sage Mode and taking on an army single-handedly, we've seen multiple instances of Madara's terrifying abilities.

You could argue that many of Madara's abilities were stolen and implanted rather than earned, and he's not naturally as strong as some of today's entries, but before you finished your sentence, you'd probably have a knife through your throat.

2. Hagoromo Otsutsuki

Hagoromo Otsutsuki

The Sage of Six Paths himself, Hagoromo Otsutsuki isn’t seen fighting in the show, however, he is most definitely one of its strongest characters. The ancestor of ninja, Hagoromo is the son of Princess Kaguya, who became the ten-tails jinchuriki before he and his brother Hamura defeated her and sealed the beast within themselves.

Many of the characters are regarded as the most powerful in the show and use some of Hagoromo’s powers including Obito, Madara, and Sasuke, so it only makes sense that he take a high place on our list.

1. Kaguya Otsutsuki

Kaguya Otsutsuki

After consuming the fruit of the God Tree, Kaguya Otsustsuki became the first wielder of chakra on earth. After she merged with the Ten-Tails, her children had no choice other than to seal her away. In the final act of the series, the seal is broken as the Ten-Tails reappears and so does she. Kaguya has access to all, including Kekkei Genkai like the Byakugan and Rinne Sharingan. Combined with her tailed beast transformation, she is most definitely the most powerful entity in the Naruto series.

Defeating Kaguya in combat took the combined efforts of Naruto, Sasuke, and fellow team seven-member Sakura. Even in the past, it took the combined efforts of both brothers Hagoromo and Hamura Otsutsuki to seal her away.
